Fire Mountain Farmstead

Perched on a high desert mesa in Western Colorado, Fire Mountain Farmstead is a small regenerative farm rooted in care for land, animals, and community. Founded in 2016 by James McCain and Niki Carpenter on rented ground outside Paonia, the farm found its permanent home in 2020 on ten acres atop Roger’s Mesa—land they now steward with deep intention.

Using beyond-organic, regenerative practices, James and Niki raise grass-fed and finished lamb and mutton, organic-fed and free-range chicken and duck eggs, and thoughtfully raised pork. Their work extends beyond livestock to include seasonal vegetables and herbs, full-spectrum hemp extract, herbal tinctures, vanilla extract, and handcrafted goods like natural soaps and freeze-dried offal dog treats.

Fire Mountain Farmstead is more than a farm—it’s a living ecosystem and gathering place. Through farm tours, tiny house stays, and a wide range of hand-crafted offerings, they invite others to experience the richness of regenerative agriculture on Colorado’s Western Slope.
