Felted Wool Shoe Inserts - The Living Farm
Felted Wool Shoe Inserts — The Living Farm
Keep your toes warm and cozy all winter with these handmade felted wool shoe inserts from Lynn at The Living Farm. Made using wool from her own lovingly raised sheep, these natural inserts provide a wonderfully warm, comfortable layer between your feet and the cold ground.
Each insert comes as a rectangle that you can trim to fit your shoes, and the rubberized bottom helps keep it securely in place.
I own several pairs myself and love them! They're perfect for everyday shoes, boots, and slippers, and they make a thoughtful, practical gift for anyone who hates cold feet as much as I do.
Locally made, wonderfully useful, and crafted with care from sheep raised right here in the North Fork Valley.

Stay Outside Longer
Cold feet have a way of ending a good day too soon.
Whether you’re harvesting vegetables, feeding livestock before sunrise, walking the dog, hiking a favorite trail, or relaxing in your favorite slippers, comfortable feet make every day better.
We made our Farm Wool Inserts after decades of farming in Colorado. Long days harvesting vegetables, feeding sheep in the snow, and standing on cold greenhouse floors taught us something simple: a layer of wool placed on top of the existing shoe liner can make your favorite shoes warmer, softer, and more comfortable. Soon everyone on the farm was wearing them.
And the surprise? We never took them out of our shoes. We discovered that wool wasn’t just useful on the coldest winter days. We loved the comfort enough to keep wearing our wool inserts throughout the year.
Comfortable in Every Season
Most people first notice how much warmer their feet feel on cold mornings. But that’s only half the story. On our farm, we wear our Farm Wool Inserts all year long.
In the summer, wool helps absorb moisture and keeps our work shoes feeling more comfortable after long days in the garden. In the winter, it adds a warm, cushioned layer while we’re harvesting greens, feeding sheep, and working outdoors.
Natural wool is one of nature’s remarkable performance fibers. It helps regulate temperature, absorbs moisture, and breathes naturally, making your favorite shoes more comfortable in every season.
Warm in January. Comfortable in July. That’s why we don’t put our wool inserts away when winter is over.
Why You’ll Love Them
Your shoes may still have plenty of life left in them. They may just need a little more warmth and comfort.
Farm Wool Inserts add a thick layer of wool directly under your feet, helping transform the shoes and boots you already own into warmer, softer, more comfortable footwear.
Here’s what you get:
- Warmer feet on cold days — Add an extra layer of natural wool insulation between your feet and the cold.
- More comfort — Thick wool adds a soft, cushioned layer under your feet.
- Better moisture management — Wool naturally absorbs moisture and breathes, helping your feet feel more comfortable during long days.
- Year-round usefulness — Wear them in winter for warmth and in summer to help manage moisture and keep your work shoes more comfortable.
- A custom fit — Trim the wool to match your existing shoe liner, or trace around your own foot and create an insert shaped specifically for you.
- They stay where you put them — The latex backing helps keep the insert from sliding and bunching toward your toes.
- Long-lasting wool felt — Our inserts are wet felted, a process that creates a dense, durable wool material designed to hold up to everyday use.
Instead of replacing a perfectly good pair of shoes or boots because they’re cold or uncomfortable, try adding a layer of wool.
Sometimes the simplest way to make your favorite footwear better is to add what’s been missing.
Cold Feet? Here’s Why.
If your feet get cold in winter, you might think you simply need warmer shoes. Sometimes you do. But often, the problem is what’s happening inside your shoes. Your feet are constantly giving off heat. When that heat is lost through the bottom and sides of your footwear, your feet can become cold even when you’re wearing a good pair of boots. And if your feet get damp, they can feel even colder. That’s where an insulating layer under your feet can make a big difference.
Farm Wool Inserts add a thick layer of wool between your feet and the cold footwear beneath them. Wool helps insulate, absorb moisture, and provide a soft layer of cushioning under your feet. So instead of replacing a perfectly good pair of shoes or boots, you can add a simple layer of wool and make the footwear you already own warmer and more comfortable.
Your shoes may not be the problem. They may just be missing a layer of wool.
Made to Hold Up
Your feet put a lot of wear on the material inside your shoes. That’s why our Farm Wool Inserts are wet felted. Wet felting works the wool fibers tightly together, creating a dense, compact felt that is well suited for the daily pressure and wear an insert receives under your feet.
That tight felt gives you an insert that is dense, durable, thick, and cushioned. You can also cut the felt anywhere you need to for a custom fit without the wool fraying or coming apart.
Put them in your work boots. Wear them in your garden shoes. Keep them in your favorite slippers. These aren’t wool inserts made to sit on a shelf. They’re made to be used, one comfortable step at a time.
A Custom Fit for Your Feet
Every shoe is shaped a little differently. That’s why your Farm Wool Inserts arrive as rectangles instead of being pre-cut into a one-size-fits-all shoe shape.
You cut them to fit your shoes and your feet.
The easiest method is to remove the existing liner from your shoe or boot, place it on top of the wool insert, trace around it with a marker, and cut along the line with a sharp pair of scissors. Then put your original shoe liner back into your shoe and place your new Farm Wool Insert on top of it with the latex side down.
Don’t have a removable liner? Simply trace around your foot and cut the wool to create an insert custom-sized for you. Because our wool is wet felted, you can cut anywhere you need to without worrying about the edges fraying.
Your shoes don’t have to fit our inserts. Our inserts are made to fit your shoes.
One Pair. So Many Places.
Once you discover how much more comfortable a layer of wool can make your footwear, you may start looking for other shoes that could use a pair. Farm Wool Inserts can add warmth, cushioning, and comfort to many of the shoes and boots you already own.
