Menagerie Woodworking by Wild

Wild is a permaculture wood-working artisan creating hand-made, one-of-a-kind rustic furniture from reclaimed/rescued materials and sustainably-harvested trees. Each unique piece is lovingly handmade to resemble nature and wildlife. Wild began building furniture from repurposed materials in Detroit during the 1990s. While living at Earthaven EcoVillage in western North Carolina, he began an artistic adventure at the micro-hydro powered Village Art Building by utilizing local rhododendrons from the neighboring forests.

Over the past five years while living in Paonia, he has been creating his most recent tree-inspired furniture with local fruit trees (pear, apple, cherry, peach). Wild has made unique relationships with arborists and orchard growers to utilize trimmings that would typically be burned or made into wood chips and begins each project by using a draw knife, sitting on a hand-made shaving horse to carefully remove the bark and unleash the beauty of the North Fork Valley.
